West Ham are expected to receive a big financial boost through the sale of an outcasted player.

Unfortunately, not every player can live up to the hype. For various reasons, they may fall flat despite the talent they possess. There is arguably no bigger case of this in West Ham’s recent history than Said Benrahma.

When he signed from Brentford, there was a huge buzz around the player and some fans were surprised that the club managed to pull it off. What he was doing in the Championship was absolutely astonishing. While he wasn’t marvellous during his first season at the club, there was enough to warrant making the loan deal permanent but he disappointingly never kicked on.

Thankfully, he more than made up for anything else he failed to do with that penalty in Prague but, overall, it was clear that it was never going to work for him in claret and blue. This resulted in him getting a loan away to Lyon, a deal which included an option to buy.

According to Claret and Hugh, his 4 goal involvements so far have impressed the French side and they are now keen to sign him permanently. The fee is expected to be around the £17 million mark and this would be a decent boost to the recruitment team’s transfer funds.

It’s not secret that the Hammers’ lack of depth has really hurt them this season, especially since letting the Algerian go on January’s deadline day, alongside Pablo Fornals. The club failed to bring in a replacement for either of them and it is certainly one reason they’ve dropped off as the season has gone on.

Hopefully the money will be spent wisely and Benrahma can go on to have a brilliant career for Lyon – after all he is forever going to be a hero amongst West Ham fans.
