West Ham could be set for a Championship raid with them reportedly leading the line to sign one of the league’s highest rated players.
Since signing for West Ham four-and-a-half years ago, Jarrod Bowen has consistently gone up a level. From his overall play, to his goal scoring, to his consistent performances even in the biggest games, Bowen is without a doubt the Hammers best player at the club.
Considering the East London side got the current face of their club from the Championship, it should come as no surprise they are keen on bringing in the best talents from the league.
In January, West Ham were linked with a number of targets from the second tier of English football. Unfortunately, due to alleged disagreements between David Moyes and Tim Steidten about signings, they only ended up bringing Kalvin Phillips on loan and, therefore, none of the Championship moves materialised.
However, with David Moyes leaving and the technical director expected to take near full control of transfers, things could be about to change.
According to Football League World, the Irons could go back in for one of their top January targets – Jack Clarke. The Sunderland winger has enjoyed another impressive season, scoring 15 goals and assisting a further 4 in the league. His dribbling, passing and finishing are excellent. Unfortunately, his decision making does need some work with the Sunderland fans labelling him as “frustrating”.
Thankfully, he does have the raw ability and the rest can be coached out of him. He’s only 23 and he has plenty of time to improve. With West Ham reportedly leading the race for his signature over the likes of Bournemouth, he could end up being the next Bowen like they’d hope – he just may need a little more time to adapt.
