West Ham are set to face stiff competition for the signature of Lopetegui’s top target.

What exactly West Ham’s transfer window will look like under a new manager and with Tim Steidten in charge of recruitment is still a mystery. However, some things never change and that’s why it should come as no surprise that the Hammers have once again been linked with a move for Youssef En-Nesyri.

Fans have lost count of how many consecutive windows they’ve been interested in signing the Moroccan, but this time things could be very different.

Obviously nothing has been confirmed, but Julen Lopetegui looks nailed on to be the next West Ham manager. He’s coached and recruited some sensational players over his managerial career, and one of them just so happens to be En-Nesyri.

While the striker, who some see as the natural replacement for Michail Antonio, has previously been against a move to the London Stadium, things could be very different with the Spaniard at the wheel.

Unfortunately, according to Fichajes, West Ham aren’t the only Premier League side looking to secure his signature. Both Newcastle and Aston Villa are apparently weighing up a move which could be devastating news for the Hammers. With Villa looking set for Champions League football, and the Magpies in with a good chance of some sort of Europe, this could give them the edge in the race.

Realistically, it depends on how keen the player is on a move to England this time around and whether he would rather work with Lopetegui to push for Europe next year, or to go to a club that has it for the upcoming campaign.
