West Ham could be about to lose out on £15 million due to another club’s financial struggles.

While there was much hype surrounding Said Benrahma when he arrived at West Ham, he unfortunately failed to live up to the expectations. He was never able to emulate his impressive performances in the championship when he was playing at the highest level.

Despite this, he scored the most important penalty in the club’s history. For that he will be remembered forevermore by the East London faithful. However, it had come to a point where it was evident that he was not going to get the plane time he would like while playing for West Ham.

As a result, in January he got a loan move to Lyon. He has made a decent start to life in France and has been a crucial player turning their season around. Unsurprisingly, they are very keen on activating their £15 million option to buy the winger, according to Caught Offside.

Frustratingly, the move may not be able to take place though. As it stands, Lyon are under a transfer embargo. If this stays in place, then the Hammers may be forced to keep hold of the Algerian.

Obviously, this would not be what either party would like but, with a new manager coming in, it may not be such a bad thing. He may suit the new manager’s style of play and they might just get him to perform at the levels he did in the second tier.

Ultimately, despite what was first thought, we may not have seen the last of Benrahma in claret and blue. However, his improved form since moving to France could mean that others show interest with there being the potential of the irons getting more than they would have if Lyon bought him.
