Declan Rice’s attempt to get West Ham players motivated fails as Manchester City win the Premier League.

Ahead of the final game of the season, either Manchester City or Arsenal could have been named champions of England. However, West Ham’s 3-1 defeat to City meant that Arsenal’s late winner against Everton was irrelevant.

What makes it even better is the fact that West Ham were one of only a handful of teams to beat the Gunners this season, meaning that the Hammers have been absolutely vital in ensuring they didn’t win the league.

With absolutely nothing to play for, it was felt that the West Ham players may have needed a little more motivation to walk away with a result; enter Declan Rice.

The former Irons captain is a controversial figure amongst the East London faithful, being either loved or despised. However, Vladimir Coufal has revealed that he reached out to some of his former teammates to give them a push.

“I think he [Declan Rice] was in touch with the English boys, but he didn’t text me! He’s an Arsenal player, so he cares about Arsenal and about their performance,” Coufal stated. “I haven’t been in touch with anyone at Arsenal, so they have their own fight and we have ours.”

Clearly, his plan backfired as Manchester City won the league for a record breaking 4th time in a row. Maybe he should have gone to the Citizens like fans wanted.
