West Ham’s latest centre-back target may be what everyone thought Nayef Aguerd was going to be.
Considering the fact they’ve conceded the most goals they ever have in a Premier League season while also having one of their best goalkeepers in recent memory, it is clear that West Ham need a complete overhaul in defence.
Alongside signing a striker, bringing in a couple of top central-defenders has to be the top priority this Summer. Ogbonna looks unlikely to receive a new contract, Nayef Aguerd has been a liability and Kurt Zouma’s knee issues have caused him to lose almost all of his mobility.
Thankfully, the club are looking at some young, modern centre-backs to bolster their backline. As our own ExWHUEmployee exclusively revealed on The West Ham Way Podcast, the Hammers have shown interest in signing RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet.
The 24-year-old has been a mainstay in the Austrian giant’s side for a number of years now and he possesses all the qualities a modern day defender needs. He has plenty of pace, brilliant defensive awareness and is absolutely sensational on the ball. He can pass excellently under pressure and makes some spectacular runs with the ball at his feet.
With just one year remaining in the Frenchman’s contract, it could be the perfect time for West Ham to swoop in. Unfortunately, according to TheHardTackle.com, both Manchester United and Aston Villa are also interested in acquiring his services.
Obviously, United have brilliant pull due to their ability and Villa have Champions League football to offer. However, we have seen how well Tim Steidten can sell the West Ham project and, hopefully, having a new manager will only help that.
