West Ham plan to reunite a Premier League captain with Julen Lopetegui.
It is no secret that West Ham need a complete rebuild of their whole squad. More than anything though, they need an overhaul of their back line. Beside Mavropanos, all of their central defenders have been woeful this season, especially since the turn of the year.
There’s been a lack of cohesion and leadership amongst the centre-backs, which is particularly worrying when Zouma is West Ham’s captain. Fortunately, this is something that recruitment team are clearly aware of as they seem to be targeting experienced players with leadership qualities.
Fabricio Bruno is already said to be close to joining the Hammers and he fits the bill perfectly. Thankfully, they’re not stopping there as, according to Jack Rosser, they’re plotting a move for Max Kilman too.
The Wolves captain was someone the club showed interest in back in January, but were not willing to match his side’s asking price at that point in time. Just a matter of months later though, things look very different.
Aside from his excellent defensive abilities, his roots in Futsal means he is very good on the ball too. Additionally, he will help the Hammers to fulfil the homegrown quota and is someone you’d expect to go straight into the starting XI, especially considering he’s played under Lopetegui previously.
Frustratingly, his price tag has not lowered at all, with Wolves set to demand £45 million for his signature. Considering just how many players our Irons need to bring in over the next few months, that may be a huge stumbling block, even more so now Paqueta looks unlikely to get his £85 million move to Manchester City.
