West Ham reportedly outbid title winners for the signature of a Spanish midfielder.

While West Ham’s midfield was solid this past season and most would agree they’ve done an excellent job at replacing Declan Rice, there are certainly concerns to be had when it comes to how well they will adapt to Julen Lopetegui’s system. Tomas Soucek in particular is someone who may struggle in a more possession based system despite enjoying an excellent campaign.

Even if they are all able to slot in, the Hammers need to add depth and that’s why they’re considering midfield options this Summer. According to Nil Sola, they’ve already identified one potential suitor and have submitted a bid for him.

Girona’s Aleix Garcia has been pivotal in pushing the Spanish side into a Champions League spot, contributing 9 goal involvements in the La Liga. The 26-year-old possesses some sensational passing skills.

The journalist claims that the East London side have offered £13.6 million for his services – more than competitors for his signature Bayer Leverkusen have offered.

It makes sense for West Ham to target Spanish players considering Lopetegui’s nationality. They may be able to slot into his system with ease and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see the club linked with many more Spaniards over the coming months.
