Fabrizio Romano gives insight into West Ham’s pursuit of a sought after midfielder.
While there are certain positions that West Ham simply don’t have enough quality in, there are others where they are pretty solid. Many were concerned that Declan Rice’s departure would mean that their midfield would collapse but, thankfully, the recruitment was spot on last Summer and Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse have done a good job at replacing him.
However, that’s not to say the midfield can’t be improved upon. With Lucas Paqueta’s future completely up in the air, the Hammers could look to bring in a more creative player to replace him. According to Fabrizio Romano, they will attempt to sign Girona’s Aleix Garcia.
“Aleíx Garcia, out of the Spain squad for the Euros… now set to decide his future with Bayer Leverkusen and West Ham pushing,” he posted on X. “Bayer Leverkusen, leading the race since April offering UCL football. West Ham made contact to present their project with Lopetegui involved.”
Others have reported that the Irons are willing to offer both Girona and the player more money than the German champions. Obviously his club will want to get as much money for him as possible, but it could depend on whether the player values competing at the top over money.
