West Ham look to sign a relegated defender to bolster their backline this Summer.
Since they conceded a record breaking 74 goals in the Premier League last season, it should come as no surprise that West Ham are desperate to reinforce their central defenders.
With Angelou Ogbonna officially departing, as well as there being rumours that both Zouma and Aguerd could be sold, the Hammers must prioritise their defence over everything else. However, when you think of players to replace those potentially departing, you wouldn’t think to necessarily sign someone from one of the only teams who conceded more goals than you.
Surprisingly, that’s exactly what West Ham are plotting, according to the Sunday People, as they look to sign Maxime Esteve from Burnley.
The Frenchman joined the Clarets on loan in January and impressed straight from the off. Despite their relegation, his move was still made permanent but they will not stop him from leaving for the right price.
Alongside the Hammers, Everton are also showing interest in signing the 22-year-old as they look to avoid the drop once more.
Overall, it is a strange one on paper but he is young and has the potential to go on to be a top defender. After he joined, Burnley’s defence did improve significantly and you could see the potential in him.
