West Ham have reportedly offered Ben Johnson a long-term contract, but their hated rivals are lurking.
While he didn’t feature all that often, Ben Johnson was brilliant almost every time he stepped on the pitch last season. Unfortunately, his lack of playtime and a disagreement over wages meant that talks broke down multiple times regarding a new contract.
With his current deal just weeks away from ending, the club are trying one last time to agree a new deal. According to The Athletic, the Hammers have offered the 24-year-old a new 5-year contract with improved terms.
If he is to agree to the extension, it will almost certainly take Julen Lopetegui explaining where he fits in at the club and his path to the starting XI. If this doesn’t happen, there are a number of clubs interested in acquiring his services on a free transfer including Crystal Palace, Rangers and, now, Tottenham Hotspur.
Moving to Spurs would see him go from one of our own to despised in an instant. It’s one thing choosing to leave the club, it’s another going to one of our biggest rivals when you’re a boyhood Hammer. Hopefully, a deal can be reached for him to stay at the London Stadium but if all else fails we can only pray he has more sense than to move to North London.
