Well respected journalist says to keep an eye on the potential departure of a West Ham player as they look to strengthen their squad.
After three consecutive seasons of European football and their first bit of silverware in over 40 years, David Moyes was perhaps a victim of his own success at West Ham. While it was a disappointing campaign, the Hammers were still fighting for Europe for the large majority of the season.
At the same time, you can argue that if he’s set the standards then he should stick to them. Largely though, his departure was down to his own shortcomings – his style of play and inability to work with a big squad were some of the main reasons the Hammers dropped off so massively in the second-half of the season. However, it was the one area he did have sufficient depth that really let him down; the defence.
Despite finishing 9th, West Ham conceded the most goals they ever have in a Premier League season, therefore it should come as no surprise that the recruitment team are already hard at work trying to sign a centre-back.
However, according to Dharmesh Sheth, this could not just be a sign of players coming in, but also a big indication of some leaving. In particular, he believes Nayef Aguerd could be sold amidst reported interest from a number of clubs.
“I think it is clear that that’s an area they do want to strengthen, that there’s lots of talk about Nayef Aguerd potentially leaving West Ham United – that’s definitely one to keep an eye on,” Dharmesh told GIVEMESPORT. “But the fact that they are going in for a centre-back in Fabricio Bruno would suggest that that is definitely an area they are prioritising during this summer’s transfer window.”
