West Ham are getting closer to securing a new contract for Ben Johnson, it has been reported by ExWHUEmployee.

The club have been in talks with the Academy graduate for months, however it’s been widely anticipated the player would depart this summer with an impasse on any potential deal.

As had been reported previously by our Podcast co-host and club insider Ex, the player has had much interest from elsewhere, with Rangers and Crystal Palace seen as the leading candidates to land the versatile defender.

However since the arrival of new Head Coach Julen Lopetegui, it’s understood that talks have now progressed and Johnson could now well be set to sign a new long term contract to remain at the club he’s been at since 8 years old.

“Ben Jobnson has been offered a new 5 year deal and he is apparently getting closer to accepting it,” reported Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon.

“Lopetegui has made it clear he would like to see him push for the first choice right back position.”

It’s now hoped a positive conclusion to the saga can be reached in the coming days although not at this stage guranteed, with Ex to keep fans fully up to date on the situation.
