West Ham are set to “test the waters” to potentially sign a German wonder-kid this Summer.

When an 18-year-old suffers a long-term injury shortly after breaking into the first team, it can often spell the end of a golden opportunity. Unfortunately, injuries are one of the biggest things that hold talented youngsters back.

Thankfully, that’s not been the case for Hertha Berlin’s Ibrahim Maza. The 18-year-old had just started playing for the Germans when he injured his Meniscus – a potentially career ending injury. However, he managed to come back towards the end of the season and actually become an extremely important player.

In 13 Bundesliga 2 games, the attacking midfielder managed 3 goal involvements which is a decent return for someone so young who has just returned from a horrific injury.

His impressive form has attracted the interest of multiple Premier League clubs, Caught Offside reports, including West Ham United. The are apparently willing to “test the waters” with a €10 million bid to see how far away they are in valuations.

Alongside the Irons, Brighton, Brentford, Leicester, RB Leipzig, Augsburg and Union Berlin are all weighing up a move for the German.

While he hasn’t had much experience, he does have plenty of potential and there would be no harm in signing him to put him on loan for a season or two. If the fee is around €10 million, there’s very little risk in signing him and the returns could make the investment look minuscule.
