Club insider reveals the West Ham recruitment team’s top priorities after signing Luis Guilherme.
In an extremely pleasant change of pace, West Ham have decided to do their business as early a possible this Summer. They’ve already signed Brazilian wonder-kid Luis Guilherme for a deal worth around £25 million and they are eager to keep the ball rolling.
However, with there being varying reports it’s hard to know exactly what the priority is at the moment with some describing the Hammers approach as “scattergun”. While it is understandable why someone would have this opinion it fortunately doesn’t seem to be the case.
According to a source of West Ham insider Claret and Hugh, despite being linked with multiple wingers, signing one isn’t the top priority right now. Instead, the club are prioritising a centre-back and a striker at this point in time. This is brilliant news as they are by far the biggest concerns from last season. In particular, they could really do with a couple of top quality defenders after conceding a record breaking 74 goals in the Premier League campaign that just finished.
Obviously Tim Steidten is now in control of transfers, but it’s important he works with Julen Lopetegui to find players that will suit his system – especially when it comes to a centre-forward. The main reason the likes of Haller and Scamacca failed to impress under David Moyes is they weren’t signed with his system in mind. Hopefully this isn’t a mistake that will be repeated under the Spaniard.
