West Ham could be about to lose out on an immense, bargain striker to London rivals.

Despite links to a number of wingers, there’s two areas that West Ham desperately need to improve upon in the coming months. Firstly is their centre-backs. The Hammers conceded a record breaking 74 goals last season and that’s simply unacceptable. Bar Mavropanos, who was still shaky, not a single one of the central defenders looked up to the task.

However, perhaps just as important is a striker. While Michail Antonio was brilliant in the latter half of the season, he isn’t able to play 90 minutes nor is he able to play back to back games consistently.

The Hammers previous attempts at replacing the Jamaican haven’t ended well, but it looks like Tim Steidten is determined to find the right man for Julen Lopetegui’s system.

One name they’ve consistently been linked with since January is Serhou Guirassy. The 28-year-old scored an absolutely ridiculous 30 goals in 30 games last campaign and assisted a further 3 along the way. Given that he has a release clause around £15 million, it would be an unbelievable signing for the Hammers.

Unfortunately, their plans have just taken a massive hit. According to BILD, Arsenal have now entered the race to sign the forward. Given that they’re likely to be pushing for the Premier League title once again, and that they’re in need of a striker themselves, it could put West Ham completely out of the race.

Even without them, there’s a whole host of clubs keen on securing his services – the majority of them have a lot more pulling power than the East London side. Although you can never say never, it seems like a long-shot to imagine that Guirassy will be playing for West Ham next season.
