West Ham have reportedly entered the race for sensational Manchester City talent this Summer.

Moving to one of the best teams in the world is obviously a proud moment for any footballer. Unfortunately, it’s not always the best option. Kalvin Phillips for example learnt very quickly that moving to Manchester City was the absolute worst thing he could’ve done for his career.

While it’s not been as catastrophic as it was for the Englishman, Sergio Gomez’s move to the Etihad hasn’t gone as well as he would’ve liked.

The now 23-year-old left-back was one of Spain’s hottest prospects while he was at Anderlecht. In the 2021/22 season he scored 6 goals and assisted a further 11 in 39 league games. However, since moving to City he’s only played 18 league games across two seasons, 6 in the last campaign – playing a grand total of 48 minutes.

According to Caught Offside, West Ham could pounce on his lack of playing time to secure a move away. Pep Guardiola’s side are only said to want €15-20 million for his services which could represent great value for someone with his potential.

Understandably, a number of clubs are showing interest in securing his signature, including Roma and multiple Spanish clubs. Whether or not he’d want to move to the London Stadium over those teams remains to be seen but having a Spanish manager in Julen Lopetegui could work massively in their favour.
