Tim Steidten has had yet another negotiating masterclass for West Ham.

Following David Moyes’ departure, there has been a lot of pressure put on the shoulders of Tim Steidten. The Hammers’ technical director hasn’t really had much of an opportunity to flex his muscles until this window, but with him fully in control of transfers it’s crucial he brings in the right players for Julen Lopetegui.

As of right now, the Hammers have made one signing in Brazilian wonder-kid Luis Guilherme. The versatile attacker is certainly one for the future, but what a future he’s expected to have.

Surprisingly though, the deal didn’t always look likely to go through due to a disagreement with Palmeiras over a 20% sell on clause, according to Claret and Hugh. However, although the clause is said to be included in the deal, Steidten managed to get Guilherme for a reduced price.

Not only did he lower the fee, but he also managed to convince the player and his agent to not include a release clause in his contract. After one was included in Paqueta’s and Kudus’ deals, West Ham fans were left worried that this would become the new norm for them. Thankfully, this doesn’t look to be the case.

There’s still a long way to go in the window and a massive amount of work needs to be done, but it’s an excellent start from the recruitment team – it’s just vital that this continues.
