West Ham have the potential to increase their global reach as an American icon looks to invest in the club.

Over the past few years, there’s been a massive upheaval in famous Americans getting involved in football (or as they’d call it, soccer). The most obvious example of this is Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s extremely successful takeover of Wrexham which has not only increased the amount of fans watching the Welsh side, but also the amount of Americans watching the sport in general.

However, this could go on to have a bigger impact on West Ham than anyone would have expected as a household name is now keen on investing in the club.

According to the Daily Mail, NBA icon Shaquille O’Neal is weighing up whether he should buy a stake in the East London side. Shaq is someone who’s as much as a businessman as he was a sportsman, he’s always been very open about how important investing his money is to him and he has been key in helping the likes of Ring Doorbells turn into the massive company that they are.

The four-time NBA winner’s money is unlikely to make a massive difference to the club’s finances, but his massive personality certainly would. He would undoubtedly start promoting the club in the USA which could end up bringing a whole new stream of revenue in. If the Hammers can really tap into the American market, it could allow them to push on to that next level now that PSR is being introduced.
