Lucas Paqueta has been linked to a loan move to Brazilian club Flamengo, with ExWHUEmployee providing an update.
It has been reported by various outlets that Flamengo are eager to secure the services of the Brazil international, with some reports suggesting that their representatives are in London looking to seal a deal.
Our Podcast co-host and club insider Ex has provided an update on the current state of play.
“Having spoke to a couple of journalists that were running the story they were convinced that the loan deal was close to happening and that the Flamengo chairman was in England to discuss the deal,” stated Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon.
“This morning the Chairman advised that this is not the case and this story is old. Apparently Flamengo did make a loan approach 6 months ago to allow Paqueta to be taken out of the limelight in England with the betting allegations hanging over his head.
“The current situation is very complex and at this point there is a lot of uncertainly. Whilst West Ham playing staff were said to be relatively confident he could play for the club again, the chairman is not as optimistic about Paqueta’s final outcome – but then again he always airs on the side of caution.
“The new Head Coach, Julen Lopetegui, even went as far as to say in his first press conference: “We are his family. He has family in Brazil and in England, the club is his family. We are going to take care of him a lot and we are waiting and looking forward to seeing him on the pitch for us”
“However, it seems like the board are not quite as confident and they fear a long ban however time will tell what will happen.”
In the latest update, it now appears that the club could entertain a permanent offer for the player if it was significantly near the release clause, with Ex advising that Flamengo are working to try and make this a possible solution to securing Paqueta this summer.
“It appears Flamengo are going to try and buy the Paqueta now,” added Ex. “They are trying to raise funds from sponsors to buy the player.
“This could appeal more to West Ham so they cut their losses in fear over the player possibly being found guilty. There is talk they would try for a year loan with an option to buy but it is thought West Ham would only entertain selling the player and for a significant amount.
“As it stands however, the club have not received this offer, they feel it is unlikely that they will get a good one and the current stance is that they do not intend to sell, especially for a cut price”
