Former Hammer makes a shocking but respectable claim about his time at the club.

Since moving to the London Stadium, West Ham have made some god awful signings. While the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Simone Zaza and Carlos Sanchez come to mind, they are perhaps less disappointing for various reasons than Albian Ajeti.

The Switzerland international was once a highly rated prospect who could’ve gone on to have a great career. Before his move to West Ham in 2019, the striker had just had two back-to-back seasons where he scored a respectable 14 league goals for Basel.

Unfortunately his £8 million move to East London didn’t go to plan as he only featured 11 times, failing to find the back of the net in any of these games, and was sold to Celtic just a year later.

Since then, things haven’t got much better for Ajeti as he has failed to make any real impact for any club, playing only 5 games last season after returning to Basel where he scored 1 goal.

This massive downwards spiral can all be put down to him perhaps getting his big move to the Premier League that bit too early. Because of this, you’d expect the forward to be bitter towards West Ham – but that’s not the case at all.

When asked in a recent interview whether he regretted moving to the London Stadium he replied by saying “no”. Not only was it a firm denial of regret, but he also swiftly added that “I would make the change again”.

You really do have to take your hat off to him. Moving to West Ham ultimately ruined his brilliant potential yet he holds no grudge against the club. Even if he did say he wished things went differently, no fan would hold that against him so this must be a genuine response.

Ultimately, he was realistically a waste of a signing, yet these sort of comments will earn him the respect of every single one of the East London faithful. Hopefully he’s able to get his career back on track as he enters, what should be, his prime years.
