Aaron Cresswell has been amazed by this West Ham signing so far in preseason.

Over the past week, Julen Lopetegui has begun working directly with those West Ham players who are not currently on international duty. It’s a fresh start for everyone and it gives new signings a unique opportunity to be on the same page as those who have been at the club for years.

As fans, it can be hard to grasp how players are fitting in behind the scenes, but this becomes near impossible with a new gaffer. Thankfully, Aaron Cresswell has managed to give everyone an update on how the new boys are settling in, and he couldn’t help but share his excitement about one of them in particular.

Luis Guilherme isn’t someone many fans would’ve heard of before his move to the London Stadium, but his £25 million transfer fee means there’s high hopes for the Brazilian. Obviously we won’t know how ready he is for the Premier League until we see him play, but he’s already making a great impression in training.

“We’ve got a couple of new lads here [in Austria pre-season] with us, so it is a great time for them to get settled in with the team, get to know the players and the staff because there are no hiding places as we are with each other day and night for a week,” Cresswell explained. “It’s a good time to get together but the main thing is working hard and we certainly have been doing that.”

“They have settled in really well, and with Wes [Foderingham] and Maximilian [Kilman] being English and speaking the language, it has been slightly easier for them.”

“But Luis is a young boy who has come from Brazil, and although his English is not great at the minute, you can see he is willing to try his best to learn the language and communicate. He’s come with a positive mindset, looks happy and I’m sure the Brazilian lads Emi [Emerson Palmieri] and Lucas [Paqueta] will look after him. We’re really happy with the way he’s come in and settled.”

While it’s vital that fans don’t get ahead of themselves and add unnecessary pressure onto the teenager, the way he’s spoken and conducted himself since joining have really got fans excited – hearing this from someone who’s entering their 10th season as a Hammer only adds to this.
