George Earthy has revealed what it’s like to be away with the West Ham first team, as well as the club’s aims for the season alongside his personal ones.
Despite falling short of a fourth consecutive campaign of European football last season, there were still plenty of special moments throughout the season. Multiple last minute winners, some unbelievable strikes and some sensational wins, yet all of them are topped by a tap in.
Watching George Earthy fall to the ground unconscious was absolutely frightening, but the boy came back with a vengeance. After just minutes of coming on against Luton, he got on the end of a magnificent Kudus assist to score his first professional goal.
That brilliant moment could be the foundation for the rest of his career and he’s now been given the opportunity to travel with the first team to Austria as they get ready for the new season.
“It’s been really good coming away to Austria”, Earthy stated. “It’s a great experience being with all the first team boys and kind of learning off of them and what they do in and around the camp – it’s been really enjoyable.”
“It’s a different environment, different place, so yeah, it’s been really good so far.”
He went on to speak about what his aims are for this season, and he believes “it’s a good opportunity with the new manager to kind of show what you’ve got, show your ability and, obviously being out here, I think it’s really important you make a good impression on him. Obviously, the first few sessions, trying to impress, showing him what you can do. But yeah, it’s a good opportunity for everyone.”
“I obviously want to play as much as I can for West Ham, I think that’s my main goal for this season,” he confirmed. “Yeah, trying to be in and around the first team, make as many appearances as I can for the club.”
“I think I’m kind of chasing that feeling of scoring again. So hopefully, if I can get the chance, score again.”
“I think we’ve all just got to try and do the best that we can and try to improve upon last season and get into Europe again. I think it’s a massive goal, trying to get back into Europe, but I definitely think that we’re striving and trying to do as best as we can.”
Although he’s only had limited play time, Earthy has instantly become a fan favourite, largely due to his desire to get on the ball and do the best job he can. On top of this, it helps that he’s one of our own and it will be intriguing to see what role he plays in the coming campaign given that Julen Lopetegui has a good record of bringing youth through.
