Wes Ham loan manager Carlton Cole has admitted that the future of Lucas Paqueta is very uncertain at present.
The Brazil star has been in the spotlight for over a year now following betting allegations that were raised a year ago, which he has subsequently been formally charged by the Football Association.
Paqueta has in turn seen his future at the club be thrown into doubt, with it understood that Flamengo are attempting to secure his services, although a loan move is not something the club would consider.
Speaking to Gambling.com, former Hammers striker Cole has given his view on the situation, with the hoe being it can be resolved soon and Paqueta can again focus on his football.
“Obviously it doesn’t look like things have gone his way in regards to the betting scandal but hopefully get can over this situation as there has been a lot of uncertainty over his future,” said Cole.
“I don’t know what the clubs mindset is towards it but West Ham want to keep him and I hear Lopetegui come out and say he is more than welcome to stay, but at the same time we’ve got to understand that there are bigger and nastier elements lurking around the corner.
“We just don’t know what’s going to happen with him. I am hoping that it gets dealt with in the correct way and there isn’t such a harsh situation for him to deal with. Hopefully he can get over this period of his life and start focusing on his football again.”
