The manager of a West Ham transfer target’s latest comments could potentially reveal where the player’s future lies.
This Summer is really make or break for West Ham. If they get their recruitment spot on it could see them push on to become European regulars, if they don’t it could spell the end of their most successful period since the Premier League began.
By far the biggest aspect the club needed to work on in the transfer window was their defence. After conceding a record breaking 74 league goals last season, the Hammers simply couldn’t go into the new campaign with the same backline. Thankfully, the recruitment team have been looking to get business done early and they’ve already spent £40 million on Max Kilman.
While the former Wolves captain will certainly improve their defence, they really could do with signing another top class centre-back to play alongside him. The Irons have been considering making a move for the likes of Jacob Greaves and Jake O’Brien, but the most exciting name they’ve been linked with is easily Jean-Clair Todibo.
It’s believed that they had a bid rejected in the €35 million mark, but they could come back in for him if either Nayef Aguerd or Kurt Zouma is sold.
Recently, Nice’s manager Franck Haise has pretty much confirmed the interest in Todibo, and he doesn’t seem too confident that he will keep hold of the Frenchman. “I know full well that in 15 days or a month there are players that will no longer be here or players that will arrive,” he said after his side’s preseason match against Lussaune-Sport.
“For now, Jean-Clair is working well, he is very serious. I have no issue with playing him because perhaps he will stay at Nice, we don’t know.”
Obviously, this implies that he believes the defender will be on the move this Summer, but it gives no indication as to where he will go. Todibo has attracted a lot of attention so it may come back to bite our Irons that they’re so set on doing a ‘one in, one out’ approach.
