Aston Villa have dropped a massive hint on Jhon Duran’s future following interest from West Ham.
It seems like the West Ham recruitment team have identified Jhon Duran as their number one target to replace Michail Antonio as the club’s first-choice striker.
Despite not being the most experienced, Duran has massively impressed when he has played. The 20-year-old has scored 5 times for Aston Villa over the past season, which isn’t great, but the large majority of his 23 appearances came from the bench.
His pace, trickery, power and striking ability make him an extremely exciting prospect, one that could go on to be worth a fortune. The Hammers have already had a £35 million bid rejected for the forward, but it’s expected that they will try to progress the deal by improving the sell-on clause.
While it wasn’t fully known where Villa stood on selling the player, a recent announcement could give a real indication as to whether they’re willing to let him go or not.
Cameron Archer spent last season on loan to Sheffield United and it was rumoured that he’d be signing for the Blades permanently. However, the Villains have confirmed that this won’t be the case.
“Aston Villa can confirm that Cameron Archer has returned from Sheffield United under the terms of the initial transfer agreement.”
What this would suggest is that Villa will use him as backup to Ollie Watkins and they will be hoping that he can develop into a brilliant player. Unfortunately, they won’t realistically be able to give both him and Duran that opportunity.
By not selling Archer, they’ve opened the door for a deal for the Colombian. Given that every club is concerned about breaching PSR, you can safely assume that they will be keen to get a good sum of money for him, but it also means there will be a bit more urgency on their part to get what they can for him, potentially allowing West Ham to negotiate the asking price down a little bit.
