West Ham technical Tim Steidten is poised to opt against a move for Lille talisman Jonathan David, making it almost impossible for the Canadian to make the switch to the London Stadium this summer, according to GIVEMESPORT sources.
Tim Steidten and Julen Lopetegui have been fully focused on bringing a new striker to East London after capturing the signings of midfielder Luis Guilherme, goalkeeper Wes Foderingham and central defender Max Kilman early in the transfer window.
Director of football Mark Noble, alongside Steidten and Lopetegui have been keen to decrease the average age of the squad this summer after the departure of David Moyes. The 24-year-old Canadian would have fit that profile perfectly, but Steidten believes there are better options for the position.
West Ham have been handed an opportunity to make the first move for David after keeping a close eye on his performances on the international stage, according to GMS sources. David bagged 2 goals in 6 appearances at the Copa America, before being knocked out by eventual winners Argentina in the semi-final. However, the German is believed to have gone cold on the idea of lodging an offer and are leaning towards focusing on alternative targets.
GMS sources recently revealed that David’s situation has been monitored by five Premier League clubs during the early stages of the summer transfer window, with Manchester United, Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea joining West Ham in monitoring his situation as he is expected to be available for in the region of £30million.
The Hammers now seem to be set on a slightly more expensive option in Jhon Duran, who too was away at the Copa America. He made just one appearance for Colombia, coming on for just thirteen minutes in a 3-0 group stage win over Costa Rica. The club have reportedly had a £35m offer refused by Aston Villa for the 20-year-old, but now the Copa America is over, the deal has more chance of getting over the line.
