West Ham could sign a Premier League midfielder that David Moyes was desperate to bring to the club.
It may have taken them a while but the West Ham board have finally learnt from their mistakes of not letting their managers get their top target. One of the main reasons things went downhill under Slaven Bilic is the fact that he had planned his whole system around William Carvalho but the owners were unwilling to meet Real Betis’ demands.
Thankfully, they’ve allowed Julen Lopetegui to sign Max Kilman which should keep the Spaniard satisfied. However, they did have to make the same mistake again before they got to this point.
Since leaving the Hammers, David Moyes has been very open and honest about a lot of what went on behind the scenes and how certain things affected him. Once again, there was one player he desperately wanted to sign but the higher ups simply wouldn’t pay the money for, Scott McTominay. The midfielder really fits Moyes’ ideal profile and who knows how much of an effect signing him could’ve had on West Ham’s season.
Surprisingly though, Caught Offside reports that the East London side still hold firm interest in securing his services. Although Manchester United do not want to sell, a bid in the region of £30 million could force their hand.
Whether or not the Scotsman would want to come to the London Stadium remains to be seen but he is expected to demand substantially more than the £60-80,000 he earns per week at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old is also subject to interest from Fulham, a side where he’d walk into the starting XI now that Joao Palhinha has joined Bayern Munich, whereas at West Ham he’d have to earn his place in the squad.
Ultimately, he certainly would have been an excellent signing under David Moyes, but there are questions to be raised about whether or not he’d suit Lopetegui’s system. Above all, it’s a lot of money to spend when they need another centre-back, a striker, a right-back and a winger.
