West Ham are unlikely to sign a Premier League striker from their list of targets due to his massive price tag.

For some unknown reason, there are a few clubs that seem to be linked with the same players as West Ham every window. Aston Villa, Crystal Palace and Everton are all consistently sharing targets with the Hammers but it seems like some of three teams could lose one of their own players to the East London side.

At one point, it looked like Jhon Duran was fairly likely to join West Ham but due to Aston Villa moving the goalposts the deal has collapsed for now. This means the Irons have had to move on to other targets with one being the Toffees’ Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The 27-year-old has failed to reach his full potential due to repeated injuries and his goal scoring record has taken a nosedive. However, he was once an unbelievably good forward and Tim Steidten will be hoping that Julen Lopetegui can get the best out of him.

According to Alex Crook though, the deal is “highly unlikely” to happen as Everton have slapped a ludicrous £40 million price tag on him. “The Everton striker has less than a year left on his contract, so the Toffees are likely to be open to a sale,” he told talkSPORT.

“However, their initial demands of £40 million were enough to put Newcastle off earlier in the window.”

“West Ham owner David Sullivan is also highly unlikely to pay anything close to that, given Calvert-Lewin’s injury record. But it’s no secret the Hammers want a new striker and Calvert-Lewin is on their list.”

Even in today’s market, £40 million is an absurd amount for a No.9 who’s scored just 14 league goals in the last 3 Premier League seasons, particularly when his contract expires so soon. Realistically, questions have to be asked about if he’s even worth half of that. He’s not produced in 3 years, largely due to the fact that he can’t keep himself fit – it’s a signing that has West Ham’s name all over it.
