West Ham United are set to switch their attentions another French centre-back as Jean-Clair Todibo looks set for a move to Juventus, according to Sports Zone.
With it looking increasingly unlikely that West Ham will be signing Jean-Clair Todibo this summer, despite having a bid accepted. The club will need to switch their attentions to another central defender, that man could be Oumar Solet of RB Salzburg.
Solet, like Todibo is 24-years-old so he too fits into Steidten and Lopetegui’s plan of making the West Ham first-team squad’s average age younger. In fact, Solet is eight days younger than the former Barcelona man.
Oumar Solet is a very versatile player who is able to play at both centre-back and holding midfield. Solet is brilliant on the ball with both his passing and dribbling ability. But the standout in his game is his electric pace which is crucial to his game.
The former France U20 international likes to play on the right side of defence, as he’s right footed. This would make him a great partner for the left-footed Kilman, which is what Lopetegui is looking for this summer.
The same report from Sports Zone suggests that the Hammers are not the only side interested in the Frenchman. Fellow Premier League club Aston Villa and Bundesliga club Stuttgart are also interested in signing him, however West Ham seem to be in the best position to strike a deal.
Oumar Solet previously spoke of his desire to play in the Premier League. He said: ‘I have a lot of ambitions, to be honest. I’m just on my way – for sure the Premier League excites me a lot,’ the 23-year-old told Mail Sport.
‘I feel it’s a league that I can perform in really well and it can bring me to the top. It’s probably the best league in the world. I feel if I have the chance it’s going to help make me become the top player I want to be.
West Ham would still ideally like to sell one of Nayef Aguerd or Kurt Zouma before signing another player in the position. Unless one of them can be used as a make weight for Solet or a similar loan to buy deal to the Todibo deal can be struck. However, both of these situations would be unlikely. So the Hammers will be hoping for Saudi or European interest in either player in the coming weeks.
The club still haven’t given up hope of signing Jean-Clair Todibo this summer, as it is still unknown as to whether or not Juventus can afford to make the signing before sales, even if its a loan to buy deal. However, Leicester City are set to make an offer of around £30m for their Argentinian attacker Matias Soule, which could be crucial in funding their move for Todibo.
