A former Premier League CEO believes Jhon Duran “could be the answer” to West Ham’s striker woes.
From Sebastian Haller, to Gianluca Scamacca, West Ham have had no luck when it comes to signing a striker. This Summer, they simply can’t afford to not find the right one. Michail Antonio isn’t what he use to be and Danny Ings has failed to produce at the London Stadium.
It will, without a doubt, be Tim Steidten’s biggest test over the coming weeks and it could really make or break Julen Lopetegui’s first season in charge of the club.
While talks have recently stalled, there is one option that the Hammers are extremely keen on signing and he’s one that many believe could finally help them get over their long-term striker issues.
Jhon Duran may not have had the most playing time for Aston Villa, but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t impressed. Despite being just 20-years-old, he has all the makings of a top forward and would have certainly got more time to prove himself if his competition wasn’t a player as good as Ollie Watkins.
In the opinion of former Aston Villa CEO Keith Wayness, Duran would be the perfect signing for the East London outfit. “They have had a problem with a No.9 right from the days of Haller,” he told Football Insider.
“I’ve seen a number of forwards come in that haven’t quite clicked. I rate Duran. I think he could be a good player for them and fit the style.”
“But we have got to see what Lopetegui is going to do. I think there has been some fan disquiet already. It’s a little bit early, but there are rumblings already. But I think Duran has shown the talent he’s got and could be a real serious Premier League striker. If he’s injury-free, I think he could be the answer.”
As it stands. our Irons won’t be signing the Colombian as Aston Villa moved the goalposts with their £35 million valuation. If an agreement can be reached though, Duran will have a lot to prove but there’s no reason to suggest he can’t prove any doubters wrong.
