Reports suggest that Lucas Paqueta could get to play the majority of next season before a decision is made on his future by the FA, but this may not be the case.

West Ham were left shocked when Lucas Paqueta was accused of breaching betting regulations last Summer, but they were even more surprised when he was charged a year later.

Not only did it disrupt their potential areas for improvement next Summer, but it also had a massive effect on their budget as they missed out on the £85 million that Manchester City would have had to pay to secure his signature.

The silver lining of this all is that it means West Ham fans get to see Paqueta wear the claret and blue next season, but for how long? While no one seems to know for definite, reports suggested that it could drag on for another year.

However, club insider Sean Whetstone has denied these claims, stating that “sources close to the club think Lucas Paqueta’s case is unlikely to be delayed until the end of the coming season while responding to a Times article on the subject and claims the end of January next year is a more realistic prediction.”

Hopefully, he is found innocent but West Ham do have to prepare for the possibility that he is guilty. If it is January that the decision is made, that should give our Irons the chance to sign a replacement. The worst case scenario is if he’s found guilty shortly after the January window closes, then the club have lost one of their star players and won’t be able to replace him – a dire situation indeed.
