West Ham’s move for Jean-Clair Todibo could be back on after a huge turn of events. The Italian giants are now worried that the Hammers could beat them to the signing of the Frenchman, according to Italian outlet ilBiancoNero.
According to multiple sources, Tim Steidten agreed a loan-to-buy deal with an option of £27m for Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo. However, the move stalled almost instantly due to the Frenchman’s desire to join the Bianconeri for Champions League football.
However, it hasn’t quite worked out the way Todibo would have liked and he could still end up at West Ham. Romeo Agresti, a journalist at ilBiancoNero said Juventus are now worried that the former Barcelona defender could choose a move to East London over Turin.
The main reason for this is likely Juventus’ financial issues. Despite the loan-to-buy deal, a move for Todibo could still cost a lot as the loan fee could be significant, meaning a huge financial package would be needed especially if the deal is an obligation to buy. Lots of media outlets have suggested that the Old Lady are required to sell to buy this summer.
This has proven difficult for the Italian’s as they don’t have the players available to sell that they had a few years ago due to the teams decline. The most likely departure seems to be 21-year-old Argentinian attacker Matias Soule who impressed on loan at Frosinone last season., he scored 11 goals in 36 matches in Serie A.
A £30m move to Leicester or Roma could be on the cards for the Argentina U20 International. Soule has also been linked to West Ham this summer, however the club now look set to make a move for the homegrown Arsenal winger Reiss Nelson. West Ham will be hoping either club doesn’t make a move for Soule soon as it would give them more hope of securing a deal for Todibo. If Juventus continue to stall Todibo could still make the decision to join West Ham.
Hammers manager Julen Lopetegui is desperate to get a deal for the Frenchman over the line, as he believes he is the perfect centre=back partner for new signing Max Kilman. It would be an exciting time to be a West Ham fan if this deal is completed, and it is far from over yet. A brilliant defence to go with the firepower and creativity of Bowen Kudus and Paqueta could lead to a brilliant season at the London Stadium.
