West Ham eye a shock move for an unbelievable defender whose future is up in the air at his current club.
When news broke that Jean-Calie Todibo’s move to West Ham had collapsed despite the club agreeing a deal with Nice, fans were understandably devastated. However, the player that they’re looking at signing instead is arguably even better.
It’s fair to say that out of every player Gareth Southgate failed to include in his England squads, Fikayo Tomori is the most baffling exclusion. The central defender has been absolutely pivotal to AC Milan since signing for the Italians back in 2021. His defensive prowess helped his side to win the Serie A during his second season at the club and he’s become a fan favourite at San Siro, which is really something when you consider the calibre of defenders they’ve had over the years.
Admittedly, his form did take a slight dip last season and, with them having a new manager, it may be time that they decide to cash in on the 26-year-old. Tomori has confessed that “a lot is changing” due to Fonseca and this could allow the Hammers to swoop in to sign an exquisite partner for Max Kilman.
Before he moved to Italy, the Daily Mail reports that the Irons actually held talks with Chelsea about the signing but obviously nothing ever came to fruition. The article claims that they are set to make a move for the Englishman once again as they look to give Julen Lopetegui every chance at succeeding.
While he’s certainly someone that’s on West Ham’s radar, it remains to be seen whether or not he’d be open to take a step down to move to the London Stadium. The positive for him would be the fact that playing in the Premier League massively boosts his chances of getting in the England squad, especially now Southgate has departed.
Obviously the finances involved will be massive, but it’s a deal that could be a statement of intent to the fans, Julen Lopetegui and the rest of the Premier League that shows just how serious of a club West Ham are now.
