West Ham have the potential to increase their income exponentially.
The current wave of celebrities from North America buying stakes in British clubs can only be a good thing. Not only does it increase the funding of these clubs through direct investment, but it also increases the cash flow they get from across the pond. Considering how big consumerism is in America, the potential growth is huge.
Wrexham, Bournemouth and, to a slightly lesser extent, Liverpool have all felt the benefits of this and it seems like West Ham could be the next club to receive this treatment.
Since news broke in June that NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal was keen on purchasing some of the East London outfit after falling in love with them, fans quickly speculated about the income he could bring in. However, things have gone quiet since then but Football Insider have suggested that the deal could still be on.
They claim that Shaq would be able to tap into his massive global audience, particularly fans of his former team the LA Lakers to bring a whole new wave of American Hammers.
If this were to happen, it would massively increase viewership, merchandise sales and, therefore, profit. This would allow our Irons to spend more money on players, wages, and an improved match day experience, with little to no downsides. With the World Cup coming to the ‘States in 2026, now would be the perfect time to get a foot in the door as many Americans will be looking to watch the sport more and find a team to support in preparation for it.
