West Ham United could make a bargain swoop for Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer, according to a report from the Football Insider.
West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui is desperate to add to the clubs striker options this summer, after both Danny Ings and Michail Antonio struggled for consistent form last season.
The clubs main target seems to be Jhon Duran of Aston Villa. The Hammers have reportedly had at least two offers rejected for the Colombian forward. The most recent being £32m, Lewis Orford and a sell-on clause. However, that offer was deemed not enough to meet Villa’s £40m valuation, according to a report from Fabrizio Romano.
This means the Hammers could potentially move on from Duran due to Villa’s very high demands. This could open up the door to make a move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin this summer. Having made an inquiry for the striker earlier in the window, the Hammers were very keen on the Englishman but again, were put off by his clubs demands.
However, this could have changed in recent days, Football Insider revealed on July 22nd that the Toffee’s could now be forced to consider offers for their number nine following the collapse of their takeover. It is very important for them that they don’t allow a player they could get double figures for to leave on a free next summer.
A takeover would have given Everton the ability to renew the England international’s contract, which is set to expire in less than 12 months. It is very unlikely that the current owners would be able to commit to a new contract for the 27-year-old, so they may have to sell.
Newcastle United also hold an interest in the target man, the Geordies had an interest earlier in the window but stopped their pursuit after failing to agree a fee with Everton. The Merseysiders may have to reconsider their price-tag and make it a fee that a club would be willing to pay. According to a Football Insider report last month, DCL informed Everton of his desire to join Newcastle United.
