West Ham are set to hold talks with Lewis Orford over a potential new contract, it has been reported by ExWHUEmployee.
As was reported yesterday, the club have been in talks with Aston Villa regarding to proposed purchase of Columbian striker Jhon Duran, which have been ongoing for a number of weeks.
Despite the talks, no agreement has yet to be reached, with Villa holding out for a higher fee as West Ham aim for a lower initial outlay with more incentive based payments.
Our Podcast co-host and club insider Ex reported that talks were set to explore all avenues, with it understood that Aston Villa proposed that Lewis Orford be made part of the negotiations, which is understood the club at the time facilitated.
“As it stands Aston Villa have rejected our latest offer to them for Jhon Duran. This was thought to be in the region of £32m plus Lewis Orford and a sell on clause,” stated Ex on The West Ham Way Patreon.
“It appeared they tried to get Orford as part of the Duran deal and we facilitated the talks.”
Ex has now also advised that West Ham have come to realise their error in allowing Orford to be part of the deal for Duran, and are now set to open talks with the player and his representatives over a potential new contract in east London.
“It does appear that the club realised the nature of the mistake they could be making and seem to be hoping to try and convince Orford to stay with loose contract conversations set to happen today,” added Ex.
To date Orford has yet to be offered any contract extension by the club, however it appears the club are now eager to try and resolve the situation.
Ex will keep fans up to date on the situation as it develops.
