West Ham United have made a new offer for Jean-Clair Todibo as they look to beat Juventus to his signature, according to a report from Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Hammers have already had a bid accepted for the French defender a couple of weeks ago, however, the Frenchman prefers a switch to Turin. However, Juventus reportedly cannot afford to sign the defender yet and Todibo is reportedly getting tired of waiting, opening the door again for a move to West Ham.
The original bid from West Ham was an initial loan deal with a €32m option-to-buy. However, West Ham have attempted to speed up a potential move by upping their offer to around €35m. This would make it even more unlikely for Juventus to be able to sign the former Barcelona defender, leaving West Ham as the only club interested.
Despite preferring a move to the Old Lady, reports suggest Todibo would happily move to East London if a fee can’t be agreed between Juventus and Nice. This would be a massive signing for Julen Lopetegui, he sees Todibo as the perfect man to partner new signing Max Kilman at the heart of the West Ham defence. The Hammers conceded a shocking 74 goals in the Premier League last campaign, their most ever. So Kilman and Todibo alongside incoming right back Aaron Wan-Bissaka would totally transform the defence.
West Ham have had a sensational last 24 hours in the transfer window with AWB, Crysensio Summerville and Niclas Fullkrug all set to join the club for less than £50m combined. If they can somehow add Todibo to this list, West Ham would be real contenders for the best window in Europe, however, I think Real Madrid will take some beating after signing Mbappe and Endrick.
Todibo is the perfect defender for a Julen Lopetegui side. He is extremely powerful in the air and excellent on the ball, you could say he is a combination of the best parts of Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma’s game. He is also rapid which is important for Lopetegui who loves to play a high line, recovery pace is needed and he more than has that. Again, if a deal can be done, especially on an initial loan, it could be one of the signings of the summer and could completely transform the West Ham defence.
