Fabrizio Romano has claimed that West Ham’s pursuit of Jhon Duran has become “very complicated”, but Aston Villa are happy to keep him.
It’s not often that West Ham get their business done efficiently, but good things come to those who wait and good things came in abundance in the past few days. The Hammers have completed the signings of Summerville, Rodriguez and Fullkrug after only stepping up their interest a week or so ago.
However, the latter of the three joining for a substantial fee has had a massive knock on effect on their chances of signing one of their top targets Jhon Duran. Obviously when they still need a right-back and at least one centre-back it’s hard to imagine them shelling out another £40 million on another forward. As a result, Fabrizio Romano has explained just how difficult the deal will be to conclude now. “It’s making it very complicated. I can’t say impossible, but very complicated,” he told GIVEMESPORT.
“Aston Villa have always rejected all the proposals they received from West Ham. It was up to more than £30 million, plus one player included, plus a long clause. So it was a very important proposal they received from West Ham and they always said no, because Aston Villa believe the player is worth £40 million guaranteed.”
“So that was the idea. Otherwise, they’re more than happy to continue with him.”
That last sentence is perhaps the most surprising of the whole statement. After the way Duran has disrespected Villa, you’d think they’d be absolutely desperate to move him on. He’s been literally begging for a move to West Ham and it’s not gone down well with anyone involved with the Midlands side.
At this point, based on what Fabrizio has said, it would be a real surprise to the Colombian at the London Stadium next season but, with how this window has gone, never say never.
