A well respected pundit has explained why he thinks Niclas Fullkrug will be the perfect striker for West Ham and Lopetegui.
Understandably, West Ham fans are extremely pessimistic when it comes to their club signing strikers, no matter how many goals they’ve scored before joining the club. Despite being lethal elsewhere, Gianluca Scamacca, Sebastian Haller and Danny Ings all flopped to varying degrees in claret and blue.
However, despite his age and some similarities to their previous failed attempts, there seems to be a bit of cautious optimism that Niclas Fullkrug can be the solution to their issues. His record in Germany is immense, but it’s not just his goal scoring record that makes him so deadly. 11 of his 26 goal involvements for Dortmund were assists, showing how brilliant he is in the build up too.
Thankfully, this is exactly the type of striker Julen Lopetegui likes and that’s why Ally McCoist has “no doubt” that the German will be able to produce the goods in England.
“I have no doubt he would score goals in the top-flight in England,” he explained to talkSPORT. “I like him.”
“I don’t like using the term old-fashioned centre-forward. But he’s a proper centre-forward. He brings people into play, can go in behind, powerful, attacks things in the box. I think he’d be a tremendous signing for somebody.”
Mccoist is someone who, despite his rather casual yet refreshing nature of commentating, has a deep knowledge of the sport. He’s someone who would have watched the striker play on countless occasions and will be in a better position than most to predict whether he will succeed.
Hopefully the Scotsman is right on this occasion and the Hammers won’t regret spending so much on someone who’s 31-years-old.
