West Ham’s latest signing Guido Rodriguez is well aware of the challenges he will face in the Premier League, but he’s prepared to put in the work to conquer them.

What a few days it’s been for West Ham United! In under a week they managed to make rapid progress on three unbelievable signings. First came Summerville whose Championship form last season will have even the most pessimistic of fans excited. Shortly after, the signing of Niclas Fullkrug was announced, who will hopefully be the resolution to their long term striker woes. Finally, there’s the signing of Guido Rodriguez which was announced today.

The Argentine midfielder once looked set to join Barcelona, but when talks broke down West Ham swooped in to bring him to the London Stadium. The swiftness of which the deal got completed would suggest that the 2022 World Cup winner was more than willing to join the Hammers, something he’s echoed in his first interview since signing for the club.

“I’m very happy to be here,” he gleamed when speaking to the official site. “I feel like it’s every footballer’s dream to play in the Premier League, and I was very excited when I heard that West Ham were interested in me.”

“It’s a historic Club, that has a really interesting project. I think it’s the right Club for me, at the right time, and I hope together we can keep growing. I spoke to Edson [Álvarez] before signing, and we’re both really looking forward to working together again.”

Although he’s been playing in the top flight of Spanish football for the past 5 seasons, Rodriguez is well aware of the step up to the Premier League. It’s a new challenge to him, but one he looks forward to tackling.

“I will help the team in any way I can. I will bring experience to the team, and though I’m aware the Premier League is very physical, I’m ready to put the work in to make sure I’m up to the task.”

“What I can say to the fans is that I will give them everything. I’m very motivated, and I think together with the supporters we can achieve many good things. I just can’t wait to get going now!”

Not only is the midfielder delighted to be at the club, but Tim Steidten admits to being just as happy to have him here, claiming that he’s a “player I have admired for a long time, and we couldn’t be happier to have completed the deal to bring him to east London.”

“We feel it is important to strike a balance between youth and experience across the squad,” he continued, “and adding a player with the experience and leadership qualities of Guido will be a real asset to the Club moving forwards.”

With all these unbelievable signings, it’s becoming really difficult to determine what the starting XI will look like next season, but that’s always a good problem for a manager to have when it’s caused by having so many good players.
