A financial expert has explained how West Ham have been dealt a huge financial blow.

With how much they’ve already spent this Summer, and it looks like they’ll spend even more, West Ham really could do with all the financial support they can get, especially with how careful every club has to be due to PSR.

However, it seems like the club have missed out on a huge opportunity to boost their transfer kitty which may be a huge let down, not just for this season, but for years to come.

For a while now it’s been rumoured that the London Stadium could be renamed in a branding deal, but nothing has come to fruition as of yet. It was speculated that Allianz could be ready to sponsor another stadium after already doing so for Bayern Munich, but financial expert Stefan Borson has explained that they’ve likely missed out on that opportunity as they are set to strike a deal with Twickenham.

“I don’t think Allianz are going to take two London stadiums. Their strategy seems to be that they do like naming rights, but they tend to take one stadium per major city,” he told Football Insider.

“If you go around the world, they do have a number of stadiums branded, with Bayern Munich the most famous one.”

“I think it will be disappointing for West Ham, but the revenue they would have made after the profit share with the local council would have been pretty small in any event. It wouldn’t move the dial.”

“All of these things help, but none of them are huge revenue generators, except for if you can find someone who is going to do a £30-40million a year type deal. They are few and far between and have only really been done in the US.”

“Even City’s deal with Etihad, which is considered one of the most controversial, is nowhere near £30-40million for the stadium.”

Although it may not have been a huge amount that they missed out on, it’s better than nothing and it still could have potentially funded another transfer.
