Danny Ings’ future at West Ham is in limbo as the club prepares to get rid of their deadwood.
Despite having an impressive record when fit, the signing of Danny Ings was a weird one. The fans didn’t particularly want him, David Moyes didn’t seem to particularly want him, yet David Sullivan decided he was exactly what he wanted.
Unfortunately, the Englishman hasn’t been able to prove his doubters wrong over his year-and-a-half as a Hammer, despite some decent performances during the last campaign. With the Irons’ Summer rebuild almost complete, it’s time to start thinking about who needs to be sold.
Although he hasn’t earned it, Ings is one of the highest earners at the club so it makes sense for him to be moved on and, according to Claret and Hugh, that’s exactly what could happen. However, he’s unwilling to take a wage cut and, understandably, it doesn’t seem like anyone’s willing to meet his demands.
As a result, it looks like he’s set on staying in East London, even going as far as to turn down an offer from his previous club Southampton.
In fairness, under a new manager he may be able to rekindle his flame and get back to being the lethal striker we know he can be, but with Fullkrug coming in it seems unlikely he will get many opportunities to do so. Ideally, the club can get him to leave purely to free up his massive wages but, if all else fails, he could still be a useful asset to have in our arsenal.
