West Ham are struggling to offload player this Summer and it’s an indication of mistakes in the recruitment process.
So far, West Ham have made 8 signings this Summer, many of which are top quality, highly rated players. Unfortunately, singing such players doesn’t come cheap, whether that be the transfer fee or the wages.
As a result, the Hammers need to offload some of their fringe players in order to bring in any further additions. Unfortunately, that’s been far from simple so far this window, Sean Whetstone reports. “West Ham are finding it difficult to offload players for the right price due to high wages they offered to attract them to become a Hammer,” he posted on X. “Two examples of this is Nayef Aguerd and Danny Ings.”
“Lots of possibilities remain in the remaining days of the summer transfer window but West Ham must first get some fringe players off their wage bill and free up squad places.”
While not making any further additions would be far from the end of the world, even if the club can get rid of the players that Julen Lopetegui has no intent of using then that would be a massive help in balancing the books. What is concerning is the fact that West Ham have continued to offer older players high wages when the same issues could arise in a couple of years.
Obviously, there are still areas our Irons can improve upon, hopefully some of this can be addressed before the window closes but, if not, there is no denying that the squad is in a much better place than it was before the Summer.
