Former West Ham United academy forward Divin Mubama has passed his medical ahead of a surprise move to Manchester City, according to a report from Fabrizio Romano.

Last week, West Ham fans were shocked to say the least as Fabrizio Romano revealed that Divin Mubama would be joining Man City after his West Ham contract expired in June. It was then revealed a few days later that the Hammers had agreed a £1.2m compensation package with the Citizens.

West Ham were really keen on keeping Mubama at the club, however, the two parties were unable to come to an agreement. So, the Newham-born forward left and has now earned himself a move to the seven-time Premier League Champions.

Mubama is expected to spend this season with Manchester City’s U21 side. He will provide competition for 18-year-old Jayden Heskey, son of former Liverpool, Aston Villa and England number nine Emile Heskey. The young striker is fully making the step up from Under 18’s to Under 21’s this season, and Mubama, a more experienced player at that level can help him with that as well as score goals himself.

The England U20 international has scored 16 goals and provided 2 assists in 30 matches in his PL2 career to date, he was even more impressive in the U18 Premier League. He scored 30 goals and provided four assists in 47 matches in the competition. However, it was the FA Youth Cup Mubama flourished in the most. In the Hammers’ Youth Cup victory in 22/23, Mubama scored a massive eight goals in five matches. This included a hattrick against Southampton at the London Stadium in the semi-final.

Off the back of these performances, Mubama earned himself some first team appearances. He made 17 appearances for West Ham, scoring one goal and providing one assist. Both of those goal contributions came in the incredible Conference League winning run, scoring in the 4-0 RO16 win against AEK Larnaca. Hammers fans will never forget him or any player that played a part in the European triumph.

Apart from his goal involvements in the Conference League, Mubama really failed to impress fans in his substitute cameo’s. However, he didn’t really have much hope as an inexperienced striker in a David Moyes system. It would have been interesting to see if Julen Lopetegui would have liked to use him in his squad. However, it will potentially be even more interesting to see how he works out in Manchester.

It is very unlikely that Divin Mubama will ever become a Man City regular, however, being in the City academy provides a pathway for a lot of players to make big moves. For example, Bayer Leverkusen stars Jeremie Frimpong and Aleix Garcia have gone on to have outstanding careers, despite not breaking into the City first team. More recently, academy graduate Liam Delap earned himself a £15m move to Ipswich Town this summer after impressing in the City Youth teams and loan at Hull last term. This is a pathway Divin Mubama could follow at the Etihad.
