Former West Ham manager David Moyes claims that it was “the right time” for him to leave when he did.

Even when at the club, David Moyes hasn’t been afraid to throw shade at the West Ham fanbase. From criticising the atmosphere, to almost directly calling out his doubters, he’s not always seen eye to eye with the East London faithful.

Since leaving, there’s been a real sense of bitterness whenever he speaks about his time at the club. He seems to think he was underappreciated by the fans for what he did for the club, and he might not be completely wrong.

However, in a rather surprising change of events, Moyes had actually spoke quite fondly of his time in claret and blue, and he does believe that leaving when he did was right for both him and the Irons.

“It was the right time for both parties,” he told the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast. “It’s never easy to leave a job where you feel like you’ve really enjoyed it, great group of players. I loved working with them, but I genuinely think it was the right time for us both.”

Hopefully, when the dust has settled, both West Ham fans and David Moyes will look back at his time at the club with nothing but fondness. It is truly the best years the majority of West Ham fans alive today will have witnessed and the best years of Moyes’ career too. It may not have ended how anyone wanted, but there’s memories there that will last a lifetime.
