West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui has expressed his delight in giving the fans the first points of the season this weekend.

The new Head Coach spoke following our emphatic 2-0 victory away to Crystal Palace, which saw our Hammers rebound from the opening day loss to Aston Villa – something that Lopetegui puts down to hard work from his players.

“The commitment and focus of the players had to be highlighted,” Lopetegui told the club’s Official Website. “We worked for this win and the feeling is our energy, our petrol.

“This is why we are happy for the fans – we were unhappy that we were not able to offer them a victory in our last match, and the only thing we can do after is to work.”

Attention now firmly turns to the Carabao Cup, where West Ham host Bournemouth this week, as there will be many hoping a real emphasis on domestic cups will be made this season with the absence of European competition.

”Now we have to put the focus 100 per cent on Bournemouth,” added Lopetegui.

“We have another big challenge in front of us in a few days, another competition, another opportunity to play the players who have not played until now.

“We want to be able to compete and win the next match.”
