Despite being on the verge of a move away from West Ham, Kurt Zouma is set to receive a massive amount of money from the club.

Since joining the club, Kurt Zouma has been a sensational player. During his first two seasons he more than justified the £30 million that the Hammers paid for him.

Unfortunately, years of repeated knee injuries have finally caught up with him, and his one and only season as West Ham captain saw his form plummet. He was probably the key reason as to why the Hammers conceded 74 Premier League goals last season and after having to tape his knees up after just 45 minutes of a preseason game against a non-league side, it became abundantly clear that he couldn’t remain at the club in any capacity.

While he’s already had one medical in the Middle East, it came as no surprise that he failed this. Surprisingly though, he seems to be making progress on his second one, this time for Al-Orobah, but there is a massive drawback to this deal.

In order to convince the Saudi Arabian club to sign the Frenchman, West Ham have agreed to pay half of his remaining wages for the remaining year of his contract in East London, Sean Whetstone has reported.

His wages come to £4.4 million between now and June, so the Irons will have to pay off £2.2 million to their former captain. Although this is much better than paying it all, it’s still far from ideal, but it seems like there is no other way. Hopefully, Zouma can pass his medical and finalise his deal, earning himself a massive paycheck to retire with. He’s been a great player and he gave his absolute everything for the badge, it’s just a shame he’s not physically capable of playing at the top level anymore.
