West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville was encouraged to join the club by a surprising source.

Since leaving the club, Pablo Fornals has helped a whole host of players to join West Ham. It makes sense, he clearly adores the club and the fans love him just as much. His hard work, dedication, and overall positive attitude made him a fan favourite so it’s no surprise that he wants the best for them.

However, Crysencio Summerville seems to have got his recommendation from a much more surprising ex-player in Kalvin Phillips, Claret and Hugh reports.

Phillips’ 6 month loan spell in East London was, to put it politely, an absolute disaster. It’s clear he was nowhere near match fit (which isn’t really his fault), but mentally he just didn’t seem to be in the right place. He arguably cost David Moyes his job with his performances. and he stuck up his middle finger at a fan following the Hammers’ defeat to Newcastle last season.

As a result, it’s surprising to hear that Phillips had nothing but good things to say about the club. “Phillips praised the behind-the-scenes staff, the player care team, and remarked on how likeable the squad is. He then reassured Summerville that he would have no issues settling into life at West Ham, sealing the deal.”

While it wasn’t the career restart he was hoping for, it’s genuinely great to hear that Phillips somewhat enjoyed his time at the club. He’s had so many personal issues to deal with so hopefully he can get his career back on track.
