West Ham’s wage bill bodes very well for the club when it comes to financial regulations.

What a window it’s been for West Ham United. Signing players like Todibo, Wan-Bissaka, and Summerville is what dreams are made of, and they’ve done extremely well at getting rid of their unneeded fringe players, even if they were mostly loans.

However, signing great players normally means big wages. With them spending a large amount on transfer fees alone, some fans had expressed concerns over the wage bill and that it could cause a PSR breach.

Thankfully, Sean Whetstone has been able to provide fans with the updated numbers which show that the club are actually better off than they were last season. “The addition of nine players have added around £605,000 per week to the West Ham wage bill or £31.5m over the course of a whole season,” he wrote on X.

“The departure Phillips, Benrahma, Downes, Keher, Johnson, Ogbonna, Trott, Mubama and Anang have saved around £404,000 per week or £21m over a season. The outbound loans of Zouma, Ward Prowse, Aguerd & Cornet will save an additional £277,000 per week or £14.5m this season.”

“Our net position should be around £4m less than last season without factoring any free agents that could sign leaving around £77,000 per week to match last season’s wage bill.”

The fact the club have managed to lower their wage bill despite improving upon their squad massively is absolutely remarkable and they deserve full credit for this. Not only has the recruitment been spot on, but the finances behind it evidently have been well thought out, putting the club in a strong position going forward.
